Thank you for coming to Susan's Soul!
This is where I feature my artwork, and display what I have been painting. Painting is what I have found, of all the artistic processes that I have done over the years that not only satisfies the creative side of me, but also eases the stress of my life. I still enjoy writing, digital work, and making websites; however, painting brings me a peace that restores my sanity, and patience levels to where I can deal with the hearty doses of real life that raising a multiply-handicapped, special needs son can bring. It is a way that I can capture my moods on canvas, share my view of the world with others, and bring some of the private places from my imagination into actuality.
Please feel free to look around; I hope you enjoy what I am doing with acrylics. Some of what I paint is on paper, some on canvas board, and some on stretched canvas. I enjoy the feel of paper, but am finding ways to treat the canvas to get the smoother feel of paper. I enjoy acrylics because of their quick drying time, but am looking forward to trying the newer interactive acrylics in order to have a little more time to blend the paints when I am working on portraits. With my son, and other health concerns, I am concerned about doing much in oils, unless I go to the water-based oils, due to the use of turpentine and other chemicals. Though there is some toxicity with acrylics, it seems to be less than with oils. Also, with his curiosity, there is a decided advantage to having the paint dry faster so that fingers that touch everything cannot destroy my work.
